Join us for the 2016 Exceptional Merit Media Awards (EMMAs) on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the American Foreign Service Association in Washington DC. The EMMAs were created by the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) to honor and reward journalists and media outlets in radio, television, print, and the internet that inform and educate the public about critical issues that impact women’s lives, and whose work often brings to light those issues that tend to slip through the cracks of mainstream public attention.

The 2016 EMMAs will be emceed by TV host & comedian Dhaya Lakshminarayanan (http://www.dhayacomedy.com), receipient of this year’s Liz Carpenter Political Humor Award. Along with eleven EMMA Award winners, the event will feature a keynote speech by former state representative, attorney & human rights activist Frances “Sissy” Farenthold, and will honor Director Robin Hauser Reynolds with a President’s Award for her groundbreaking documentary film Code: Debugging the Gender Gap. The EMMAs will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran diplomat Marguerite Cooper for her work in the American Foreign Service.

Past winners include Ellen Goodman, Cokie Roberts, Barbara Ehrenreich, Diane Sawyer, and Eleanor Clift, among many others.  We are excited that this year we received a record number of submissions including pieces from renowned media outlets such as the New York Times, Mother Jones, Marie Claire, Al Jeezera America, and more.

We hope you'll join us as we honor the journalists and media makers giving voice to vital issues important to women and girls.
